Raised in Chicago, he moved to the Rockies in the early '70s to attend the University of Colorado. More inspired by music than by academia, Turner immersed himself in the local scene, and stints with some notable acts ensued. He played in the region's first punk/R & B band, "The Immortal Nightflames", then with Grammy nominees Tracy Nelson and Mother Earth, and the 4-nikators, a group which has become legendary for its unique mix of Soul, Motown, and Rock.

The JCGB is one of the most popular bands in the Midwest. Their music is roots rock, infused with an outlaw flair. Front man Steve McLain has one of those rare voices that never misses the mark, and a good-vibes personality that is humble, confident and electrifying.
Whether cutting loose at an all-day outdoor music festival, a college, a bike rally, a main stage or a tavern-this is a band guaranteed to lift your spirits and get your feet moving with their irrepressibly tight musicianship and down-home esprit de corps.
Live shows are a powerful mix of original tunes with Rock, Blues, Folk, Country and Reggae classics. The band incorporates the themes of love, pride, community, and conservation in their creative mix. It is music played from the heart that goes straight to the heart; that makes you feel good, happy to be alive, elevates your soul and makes you want to come back for more.

The songwriting duo of Dennis James and Lauryn Shapter was born out of a chance meeting in December of 2002. Old-school country music junkies, the two share an undying passion for music that matters, as well as a profound respect for life and all its myriad emotions, stories, and characters. They began melding their sound into what would eventually become Truckstop Souvenir, drawing inspiration from the rural American landscape and the open road, as well as from the musicians who traveled the highways and back roads before them.
When Lauryn first joined Dennis on stage in early 2003, both they and the audience sensed there was magic in this paring. The sparse fiddle accompaniment to songs of love, redemption, despair, and hope was only the beginning. Over the course of time, Dennis and Lauryn have honed their harmony singing to blend seamlessly as one voice. Their divergent musical backgrounds and influences -- Dennis a self-taught musician steeped in the Texas school of songwriting, Lauryn formally trained and enamored with the Scots-Irish tradition of Appalachian ballads -- have come together to create a sound that, while paying homage to their roots, is uniquely theirs.
